Why MazaoX exists

Kenya has spent decades building advisory infrastructure — extension networks, SMS platforms, county programmes, digital advisory services. None of it was ever connected to answer the question that determines whether any of it works: did the farmer act, and did it help?
MazaoX isn’t a new advisory channel. It’s the analytics platform that sits across the channels that already exist — linking the data they already generate into a record of what was advised, who engaged, and what resulted.
Three things shape how we build it. Evidence has to be continuous, not episodic — generated in-season, at scale, without new burdens on farmers or field staff. Programmes need to know what works before the funding ends, not in an evaluation report eighteen months after the last farmer interaction. And capital follows credible evidence — effective CSA interventions stay underfunded not because money is unavailable, but because the evidence to de-risk the decision doesn’t exist in a form institutions can use.
Built for the Kenyan CSA programme environment, designed to replicate across comparable Sub-Saharan African contexts where the same evidence gap constrains both learning and capital.

Research experience inside East African agricultural institutions, plus intellectual property work for R&D-driven organisations. The design for MazaoX came out of working directly with the data CSA programmes generate — and seeing how little of it ever gets connected to an outcome.
